The local area and its activities

Velanne is a community of small hamlets with a total of around 550 inhabitants. There is no industry or commerce in Velanne, but there is a superb restaurant – the ‘1884′.

Visible from the gite is Le Mont Blanc to the NE, and the Chartreuse to the E and SE.

The nearest towns are Pont de Beauvoisin, around 6km to the NE, St. Geoire-en-Valdaine, 6km to the S, and Les Abrets, 7 km to the NW.

Voiron is 26 km away, and is a mid-sized town on the outskirts of the Chartreuse National Park. Voiron has a lot of history, and the Chartreuse distillery is situated in the middle of the town.

Local activities include carriage-driving, horse riding, rafting, canoeing, cycling and tennis all within close proximity to the property.  There are many superb walks in the area around the property.
